Lady President’s Report – May
Our 1st Visitors Day for the year will be held on May 27th. We have a fairly full field but will accommodate any further ladies that wish to play. It will be an 8.30am shotgun start – please allow plenty of time to get out to the various tees!
The committee has changed the date of the pennant lunch – it is now on June 21st – the day after Silver pennant finishes. We decided to bring it forward so it was as close to the finish of the Pennant season as possible. Also, August is a month when a lot of ladies travel…please advise your team captain if you are able to attend.
Many thanks to all the members who took time to fill out the survey sent out by the club. Management is busy putting all the information together and will advise us of the outcomes ASAP.
The club has held some ladies clinics and hopefully we will attract some new members as a result.
We are still low in numbers for our Tuesday competition, so any ladies who are sitting at home instead of heading out to the club on Tuesday mornings – PLEASE RECONSIDER – we would love to see you back on the Fairways!!
We send our best wishes for a speedy recovery to any ladies who are unwell at present – Pat Hadley and Helen Wells are both laid up but we hope to see them back on the golf course soon.
Our Huntingdale visit is now on the weekend of 20-22nd September. Please get in touch with the ladies committee if you wish to join the group.

Lady Captain’s Report – May
The Lakes Charity Event
This event will be officially launched at our Visitors Day 27th May. This year the Charity we are raising funds for is The Nelune Foundation. We will be having a short presentation and a video outlining the event. This is a first for The Lakes and we hope all members will be involved to ensure its success.
Gold Course Championship
After all our efforts to design our Gold Course I am very pleased to announce that our very 1st Championship will be held Friday 7th November. It will be a Par event and held in 2 divisions.
Eclectic/Birdie Books
From next year these books will not be required as our new card system will automatically calculate these results.
Championships
As a result of the constructive feedback from our ladies in relation to our Club Championships, including our consolation Kerrie Cripps and Bronze Salver events, the Committee has decided the 2014 Conditions of Play will be revised to include the following matters:
- The Club Championship will remain an open event – all ladies, regardless of handicap status, will be eligible to compete
- The handicap range for qualification for the Kerrie Cripps will be GA 9.0 – GA15.0
- The handicap range for qualification for the Bronze 1 Championship will be GA15.1 – GA 45.4
- The handicap range for qualification for the Bronze Salver will be GA19.0 – GA 45.4
- The Club and Bronze Championships will be played over 3 rounds of stroke play on the dates as specified in our 2014 handbook
- The Kerrie Cripps and the Bronze Salver will be played concurrently with the first and second rounds of stroke play of the Club and Bronze Championships.
- Accordingly ladies who do not wish to continue to compete for the Club and Bronze Championships, but who do wish to compete for the Kerrie Cripps or the Bronze Salver, need only play the first and second rounds, but do not need to play the third round, of stroke play
The Conditions of Play for 2015 Match Play will be:
The Kerrie Cripps and the Bronze Salver (same handicap ranges as set out above) will be played as two stroke rounds concurrently with the two qualifying stroke rounds for the Match Play Championships. Those who don’t qualify for the match play events (16 to qualify in each case) will have competed in the Kerrie Cripps and the Bronze Salver. The top 16 for Club and Bronze Championships will then play match play.
Other Golf Events
Further, the Committee wishes to advise that having regard to constructive feedback in relation to other events on our golfing calendar it has been decided that going forward the following will apply:
- Single Match Play – full handicap difference will continue to be utilised
- Team Match Play – ¾ handicap difference will be utilised
- Eclectic Events – there will be prizes for both Division 1 and Division 2 – in each case our full handicaps (rather than half handicaps as previously) will be deducted from a player’s best eclectic round to calculate the ultimate winning scores
The Committee hopes that these changes will provide players at all handicap levels with better opportunities to compete in the events described and we wish to thank our ladies for the valuable feedback that has led to these decisions. As always, nothing is “set in stone” and we look forward to your continuing input in relation to these and other matters to ensure we all have happy and satisfying golfing at The Lakes.
