Whitfield Bowl 2016

On Wednesday 17 August, 2016, the annual event between The Lakes Golf Club and The Army called The Whitfield Bowl was held. Named after past President and past Captain Norman Whitfield, this trophy has been played for since 1948 by teams from Officers of Eastern Command (Army) and The Lakes. The competition for this event is a 4Ball Stableford Medley where each pair is playing for a point for their respective side.

This year’s event saw 12 Lakes Members go up against 12 Army Officers. Their tee times were around Midday off both the 1st and 10th tees under conditions that were fit for good scoring. Stan Conner and Nigel Groome led out the contingent from The Lakes against Jeffery Stark and Mark Shepherd from The Army.

There were some high fourball scores with Jim Harkin and David Collinson having the highest score of the day with 45 points and taking out the Winners of Best Lakes Pair. The pair of Jeffrey Stark and Mark Shepherd were the lead pair for The Army as they returned a fourball score of 42 points.

In the end it was The Lakes GC defeating The Army 5 points to 1. Dinner was served at 7pm at the Victoria Barracks for all participants where the dress code was Black Suit and Tie. Congratulations to all players and to The Lakes GC on their win.

We look forward to hosting The Army again for this event in 2017.
