The 2018 Lakes Senior Medal was held on Monday 14th May with 88 players teeing it up in this year’s event. The day began very overcast with light rain and strong winds out of the south west. The course was presented again in fabulous condition with greens running at 10.5” on the stimp.
With the combination of high winds, the cold and the slick greens, players were presented with a very stern test for Round 1 of the NSW Senior’s Classic.
There were six Lakes Members playing in the event who were Roy Vandersluis, Vincent Clark, Bruce Johnson, Stuart Beck, Alex Bosansky and Geoffrey Everett.
The Lakes Senior Medal was the first round of three for the NSW Senior’s Classic which is held over three rounds of 18 holes of stroke over three different courses. The best 54 hole scratch score at the end of the event is crowned the NSW Senior’s Classic Champion.
In yesterday’s event, it was Steve Puskaric from Kogarah Golf Club off a handicap of 0 who won the Senior Medal event with a fantastic score of three over par, 75. He was closely followed by Lester Petersen from Bardwell Valley who had 76 to take second and Michael Baltrop from Royal Auckland who rounded out the top three with a score of 77.
In the Nett event it was Peter Ferris from Ocean Shores Golf Club off a handicap of 5 who had a nett score of 75 to take out the Nett event from Roy Shuttleworth from North Ryde Golf Club who had 77 on a countback.
In the 65 and over component of the event, our very own Lakes Members Roy Vandersluis and Vincent Clark took line honours. Roy won this event with a gross score of 79 with Vincent coming in second with 80.
Congratulations to all winners and participants of this year’s event. We look forward to welcoming back all players in May 2019.
