The 1st Round of the 72 Hole Championship Medal was held on Saturday 4th August, 2018. Over 180 Members teed it up on a beautiful, sunny Saturday with just over 50 of them electing to play in this year’s 72 Hole stroke event.
The defending champion of the four round stroke event was Tristan Berrett, who was out to defend his title once again. With the golf course once again presented in fabulous condition, the greens would prove the real test at running just under 12″ on the stimp meter.
Nick Happell was able to return a very solid score of 4 over par, 76 to take the Clubhouse lead after the morning field had all concluded their rounds. Also during the morning contingent, Roy Vandersluis was able to return also a solid score of 6 over par, 78.
With only two scores under 80, the field were all coming to grips with the testing conditions the golf course were throwing at them. Playing in the second to last group of the day, the 2017 Seniors Champion, Tony O’Rourke posted a fantastic round of 4 over par, 76 to tie for the lead of this year’s 72 Hole Championship Medal. Great scoring Tony!
Saturday 11th August is Round 2 of the 72 Hole Championship Medal.
