The Annual President’s vs Captain’s Match was played on Saturday 20 October, 2018. The newly elected President John Boys was up against the Club Captain Darren Wathen in this traditional match that has been played at The Lakes for over 50 years.
The Tween Decks’ trophy, donated by Sir Adolph Basser, is an annual competition between the President’s team (traditionally upper lockers) and the Captain’s team (traditionally lower lockers). The 2017 defending champions were the President’s Team who had an emphatic win in the 2017 event defeating the Captain’s team 12 – 5.
A Calcutta commenced in the Clubhouse from 11.30am which ran for about 45 minutes. Tony O’Rourke once again elegantly and exquisitely took control of this auction process where the Clubhouse was full of Members both from the morning field and as well as the afternoon, making the atmosphere great for a competitive auction.
Once the Calcutta concluded and the flurry of monies exchange took place, the golf was the main event and for many, was an opportunity to put their money where their mouth was.
The best fourball score returned for the President’s Team were Aubrey Zelinsky and Robert Miller with an amazing fourball score of 47 points.
The best fourball score returned for the Captain’s Team were Stan Conner and Club Captain Darren Wathen with 45 points.
The best single score returned was Stan Conner who had a great singles score of 39 Points. However, being the winner for the Captain’s Fourball, the singles winner was Evan Kargas who also had a great score of 39 points off a handicap of 5. Well done Evan!
In the end, the President’s Team were too good for the Captain’s Team in 2018 prevailing with a close 10 – 8 victory! Congratulations John and your team.

$160 from the Calcutta will be donated to the Sydney Children’s Hospital, who is the charity for The Lakes Golf Club Members’ Charity Event to be held on Thursday 18 July 2019.
