Round 4 of the Women’s Friday Grade was played at Avondale Golf Club against Bayview on Friday 15th March. This was always shaping up to be a crucial match against Bayview as they had been placed highly the 2018 season.
The road to Avondale Golf Club was fraught with danger, the Pacific Highway was closed due to the rain and Raewyn Ellis-Doff’s GPS was all ascue and provided inaccurate information. Fortunately our number 5 not only found the golf course but also many of the fairways and finished a creditable 2 up. Well done Raewyn as this was her first match for us this season.
This set the tone with Nancy Cave Olfers, our reigning Lena Malouf Summer Match-play Champion, following quickly after with a heart stopping 1 up and with still more wins than losses under her belt. Well done Nancy!
Our number 3, Jane Loveday, was slightly injured, but valiantly fought all the way, unfortunately losing 3/2 in a close match.
Our trojan number 2, Tarina Foote, was all smiles the first 9, being well up in her match but a few hiccups on the back and a stern look from her caddy, meant she gallantly won 1 up and is still undefeated for the season. An amazing achievement which will hopefully we will see continue throughout the 2019 season.
Our number 1, the ever vibrant Liz White, played a steady game and hit some great shots and putts and in doing so, putting a big smile on her caddy’s face. Liz was always up and finished a the match with a solid 1 up victory.
We had won 4/1, a great effort from the team.
The team waited patiently to see how their main rivals, NSW had fared. A 4/1 win to NSW as well meant that we’re both tied for first position after four rounds of the 2019 competition.
Next week sees us playing at NSW Golf Club against Oatlands from 8am off the 1st tee on Friday 22nd March, 2019.
