Our last game was at Carnarvon against Avondale on Friday 5th April, 2019. At this stage the team was undefeated but trailing the youngsters from NSW by half a point. Everyone was ready to play their best and hopefully knock NSW off their pedestal.
First off was the ever reliable Nancy Cave Olfers who has been a revelation for the team. She has played nearly all the matches with just one loss. A win here would set the scene nicely and of course she came through with a solid 3/2 win. One point on the board!
Next was Karen Lasky who has been a worthy contributor to the team. She has battled to the 18th in most of her matches and today was no different. A long putt saw us all putting our arms up in glee with a 1 up result to us. Two points now were ours.
Our never say die Jane Loveday had a mixed match and was down for most of her match but managed to get it back to square before going down on the 18th hole. A fantastic effort !
Liz White, our number one had a mixed day and tried everything to get a point for the team. Her opponent, a former rep player from South Africa was just too good on the day.
Our number two, the intrepid Tarina and undefeated in all her matches was still on the course. It was 2/2 so her match was a crucial one. After getting the evil eye on the 16th things were not looking good but as usual Tarina, the most focused of players, kept her cool, sinking a long putt on the 18th to remain 1 up and remain undefeated. Well done Tarina, a fabulous effort!
We had won 3/2 and hence undefeated for the season. A fantastic effort by the team.
A big thanks to Vivienne Freeman who whilst couldn’t play the last game was an integral part of the team winning many matches as were our reserves Raewyn Ellis Doff and Kim Archer who when called upon gave valuable wins to the team.
NSW played very solidly throughout the competition and ended up worthy winners. Half a point back was The Lakes so I think the team can be very pleased with their second position and the result in the 2019 campaign.
Many thanks to the loyal caddies, Jane Taylor, Kim Archer, Chris Foote and Margie Happell. A big thank you to Margie Happell, our Women’s Captain, for coming out and supporting the team.
As Team Manager it was a pleasure to witness the camaraderie within the team with all members being very supportive of each other.
