The 2019 Lakes Senior Medal was held on Monday 13th May with 96 players teeing it up in this year’s event. We actually had 118 entrants for the 96 available spots and therefore a ballot was conducted. The handicap cut off was a GA handicap of 6.1 or higher.
The day began with sensational weather with clear blue skies and crisp air greeting players for their game. The course was presented again in fabulous condition with greens running at 11.5” on the stimp.
With the combination of light winds, the cold and the slick greens, players were presented with a very stern test for Round 1 of the 2019 NSW Senior’s Classic.
There were eight Lakes Members playing in the event who were Roy Vandersluis, Vincent Clark, John Dalley, Giora Friede, David Buxton, John Boys, Alex Bosansky and Geoffrey Everett.
The Lakes Senior Medal was the first round of three for the NSW Senior’s Classic which is held over three rounds of 18 holes of stroke over three different courses. The best 54 hole scratch score at the end of the event is crowned the NSW Senior’s Classic Champion.
In today’s event, it was Geoff Cranfield from Long Reef Golf Club off a handicap of 0 who won the Senior Medal event with a fantastic score of one over par, 73. He was closely followed by Michael Musgrave from Toronto Golf Club who had 74 to take second and Michael Peeck from Dalby Golf Club who rounded out the top three with a score of 76 on a countback.
In the Nett event it was Christopher Winslade from Yowani Country Club off a handicap of 4 who had a nett score of 72 on a countback to take out the Nett event from Darryl Hearsch from Manly Golf Club who had 72 on a countback.
In the 65 and over component of the event, our very own Lakes Members Roy Vandersluis and Vincent Clark took line honours. Roy won this event with a gross score of 76 with Vincent coming in second with 79.
Congratulations to all winners and participants of this year’s event. We look forward to welcoming back all players in May 2020.
