Each year in January, The Lakes opens the course to young players throughout NSW. The Junior Development day is about giving young golfers access to a Championship Course while playing in a competitive environment. Each year we traditionally see Fathers bringing their Sons, or a Parent from one club will arrange for a group of adults and children to play.
Role models, or ‘big brothers’ are accompanying younger members from their club to compete together. This year’s event was held on Monday 13th January where 75 participants played and competed for the prizes on offer.
The winner of the Under 18 competition was Madeline Mok from Kogarah Golf Club off a handicap off 31. She returned a fantastic score of 44 stableford points and was able to convincingly win the day by 4 points from her nearest competitor, Lakes Member, Irene Kaloudis off 13, who had an awesome score of 40 points.
In the Over 18’s competition, Nicholas Lagesse from Woollahra Golf Club off a handicap of 13 returned a score of 36 points on a countback to edge out Dustin Van Roest from Moore Park Golf Club off a handicap of 16, who also had 36 points. Congratulations to Nicholas and Dustin on your fine scores!
The event this year was extra special with the Winner and Runner-Up of the Under 18’s competition each receiving a prize from Bushnell, which were donated for this year’s event. The Winner’s prize was valued at $499 whilst the Runner’s Up Prize was valued at $379. Thank you to the sponsor Bushnell for their kind gesture!
Once again, a big thank you to Lakes Member, Stan Conner for his time and effort in the lead up to this event and for his help on Monday in starting the field and driving around the golf course ensuring all participants were keeping up and having fun. Thank you, Stan, for your long-term commitment to Junior Golf at The Lakes and the Junior Open Development Golf Day.
