Course Superintendents Blog – 6th December 2025
Dear Members,
As we complete Week 5 of renovations and head towards the final 2-week stretch, you will notice the work that has been completed in both the yearly renovation and also the Zoysia grass conversion, bunker and sandy waste restoration under the Course Review with our Course Architects OCM.
Renovations:
The greens have returned incredibly well since the scarifying, coring and top-dressing schedules in November. The greens are back into their regular maintenance program now being rolled and cut at 3mm.
As you will note while on course, the fairways have also bounced back post scarifying the fairways. This process of removing the thatch, dead grass and debris helps incredibly with the air, water and nutrient circulation, allowing more effective penetration of fertilisers and keeping the fairways healthier and higher quality turf for longer.
OCM Course works:
The OCM and Course team continue to work tirelessly in fulfilling the Course Review project and have made significant progress this week.
So far this period we have completed sandy waste, Zoysia grass conversion, bunker restorations and removed the thatchy Kikuyu in front and around greens on on the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 7th and 9th holes. Totaling over 4,500m2 of new turf on these holes alone.
This week, under out first heat wave of summer, the team will have completed the 7th hole Zoysia grass conversion and bunker restoration, irrigation installation and laying another 700m2 of turf. Members can expect a higher level of watering during the weekend as we keep the new turf healthy throughout the heat.
The fairway bunkers on the 4th and 5th holes this week have also been prepared for the Zoysia grass conversion and are now ready for their new turf early next week. Some Members have questioned why we didn’t complete these bunkers in 2024, and the reason for this is there wasn’t sufficient time in the program last year to include the grass conversion of those fairway bunkers. Each project period is timed for November and December to optimise the growing conditions, and this means we must reach the end of the program by Christmas. Whilst the team works incredibly hard to progress through the program as efficiently as possible, our highest priority is completing the work to the highest quality for Members. Sometimes this means we don’t progress through the program as quickly as hoped.
Hole Closures:
Week of Monday 8th December: 4th & 5th alternating as Par 3 and 8th Closed.
Week of Monday 15th December: 8th Closed, 4th and 5th holes open for play.
Week of Monday 22nd December: Full Course Open
The bunkers and all new turf will remain as GUR (No Play Zone) until February, noting that the exact timing of them returning to play will be influenced by the grow-in conditions over the summer.
The entire course team appreciate your support and patience during this time and are excited for you to experience the work and upgrades that have been completed.
Thank you,
Anthony
