The 2018 Seniors Championship Final is now set with Barry Reichman and Roy Vandersluis the 2018 Finalists. Their final is due to be contested by Sunday 1st July.
Barry defeated Giora Friede 5/4 in their semi-final match this past week. Their match started out very close and was hard fought all the way to the conclusion. Barry was solid down the middle stretch of the Back nine to claim a strong victory on his way to the final.
On Sunday 24th, the other semi final was contested between 2017 finalists Tony O’Rourke and Roy Vandersluis. On a crisp, cool and sunny day with a golf course that was presented in wonderful condition, the pair set off for what was a replay of the 2017 final.
A contrast of games saw the pair play the course in their own styles. Through 14 holes, it was Roy who held a slim lead of 1up. He held onto this lead to the 18th tee and hit his tee shot on the green to about 15 foot. Tony was short of the green with his tee shot and was confronted with an off the green putt to a front left pin.
Tony was able to hole his putt on the 18th hole for birdie to force extra holes. The match went all the way to the 21st hole where it was Roy who outlasted Tony with a solid par 4 on the long 3rd hole to secure the win after 21 holes. Congratulations Roy!
