The 2020 Team members are Roy Vandersluis (aka Roy Vanderlin), Vince Clark, Kevin Trenorden, David Williams, Albert Salerno (Captain), David Goble, Gary Snow, John Boys, Bart Doff, Bruce Johnson, Ralph Piggott, Geoff Everett and Joe Gilles.
Roy the Boy
Roy jumped out of the boxes and was 5 up after 5 holes. After hitting the tree on the 410m second hole for his second shot, he promptly drained a 20 footer for par. Six, 1 putt greens in 5 holes in the middle of the round saw Roy’s opponent move up the leader board but, always the frontrunner, Roy prevailed 4/2.
Vince
A non-eventful round for Vince, who was 2 up after 5 holes and showed the strength of his iron play with a shot 20 feet from the hole on the 370m 8th hole.
His opponent played quite well but could not withstand Vince’s persistence.
Kevin
Kevin struggled with his swing during the day, but he isn’t called “Never Say Die” for nothing.
He fought back valiantly, losing one up on the 18th.
I saw a memorable shot on the 193m par 3, 3rd hole, where he put the ball 25 feet away on the hole where everyone else struggled.
David Williams
David’s tee shot on the first tee was a delightful fade between the mid fairway tree and the right hand fairway bunker, which had swallowed up many of the other teams’ drives.
One down after five, his eyes told me he was struggling but a crisp iron to the middle of the 11th hole green, 331m away from the tee showed me that he was coming back, resulting in a 2/1 win.
Albert
Having played very well at Magenta Shores a few days before Albert never looked back, winning 9/8. His opponent asked me whether “the man ever stopped attacking the hole”!!. His 5 rescue on the 2nd hole to 20 feet from the pin on the 410 par 4 was memorable.
David Goble
David was square after five holes after draining a 15 footer on the 3rd hole out of the bunker. He hit a memorable shot to the right of the green out of the trees on the 11th and birdied the 15th from off the green, knocking the stuffing out of his opponent on the 356m par 4, to win 4/3.
Gary
Gary might make some mistakes, but not many.
His light hearted approach and putts from everywhere up to 40m from the pin are renowned.
He won easily 4/3.
The President
John didn’t have his “A” game at Carnarvon. 1 down after 15, he fought hard but couldn’t get up on the 18th, losing 1 down.
The next match is at Cronulla Golf Club against the highly regarded Strathfield.
