New Reciprocal Agreement: Sanctuary Cove Golf & Country Club

The recent comprehensive Member Survey identified the Gold Coast as one of the priority areas that Members wanted access to a reciprocal golf course. Effective of 1 July we have established a one year trial reciprocal agreement with Sanctuary Cove Golf and Country Club located on the Gold Coast in Queensland. Sanctuary Cove has two outstanding golf courses amongst the array of world class facilities that are now available to visiting Members from The Lakes. Unfortunately we are unable to access the Pines Golf Course on a Saturday but are able to access the newly constructed Palms golf course 7 days a week, whilst the Pines is available 6 days a week. Note that all Members must organise a letter of introduction from The Lakes office prior to visiting the Gold Coast.

Sanctuary Cove Golf & Country Club

Sanctuary Cove is one of Australia’s premier golfing destinations with two internationally-renowned championship golf courses — The Pines and The Palms — both applauded for contrasting styles and premier design. A recent multi-million dollar rejuvenation of the golfing amenities has paved the way for state-of-the-art facilities and newly-configured fairways to further enhance the Sanctuary Cove golfing experience – which is widely regarded among Australia’s elite players.

As Australia’s only Arnold Palmer signature course, The Pines is recognised as one of Australia’s best and most challenging courses. Carved through 101 hectares of established pine forest, the course features corridor approaches to several holes, with lakes guarding others. Fourteen of the holes are contoured around six man-made lakes. An abundance of wildlife features on The Pines including rare bird life and scores of native Australian kangaroos. With a course rating of 74 off the black tees and 72 off the blue tees the course offers a very special golfing experience.

The Palms Golf Course has recently undergone an $8.8 million reconstruction and was redesigned by renowned golf course architect Ross Watson. After its reopening in April 2011, The Palms is considered a championship course rivalling some of the best golf courses in Australia. It has a total length of 5904 metres off the championship tees, and has numerous water features and hazards. Tee placements have been designed to suit
a variety of playing conditions and a diverse range of players. Nestled within century old Cabbage Palms, The Palms Golf Course is a return to the traditions of the game, with
distinctive holes, deep greenside bunkers and boldly contoured greens requiring creative shot making.

“The Palms is unique because of its rustic bunker style and unique layout. The Palms is deliberately shorter and requires the player to think more about where the pin is and where they need to be aiming – It’s the thinking man’s course.” Ross Watson – Course Architect

Sanctuary Cove’s new $13 million Golf and Country Club is one of the most spectacular facilities in the Australian golf arena. Completed in 2010, the state-of-the-art clubhouse forms a striking feature atop a picturesque waterfront location on The Pines. The Lakeside Bar provides expansive views of the The Pines’ 18th hole, with the mountains in the background. Parking is available for 40 – 50 buggies and 80 cars.

The Board and Management of Sanctuary Cove Golf and Country Club would like to welcome our newest reciprocal members from The Lakes Golf Club to experience the Gold Coast’s finest golf facility. Reciprocal Members are welcome to utilise the facilities including access to both golf courses. Regular Member competitions are available; however Saturdays are limited to the Palms golf course only. Golf bookings are available through the Golf Shop on 07 5699 9050. Please ensure a letter of introduction is arranged through The Lakes Golf Club in order to identify Reciprocal Members.
