Astrolabe Park – Stormwater Project

Our landlord Sydney Water has advised the Club of its plan to proceed with the Astrolabe Park Stormwater Project. We have been provided with opportunities to submit feedback and the majority of these suggestions have been included in the final scope of works. There is no expected impact during construction from this project that is planned to commence later in 2015.

Under Astrolabe Park at Eastlakes there are two large stormwater pipes that direct stormwater into Botany wetlands. These pipes are deteriorating so they are being replaced. This project provides an opportunity for Sydney Water to create a sustainable and more efficient stormwater system. The filtration system at Astrolabe Park includes a natural wetland. It’s designed so the stormwater outlet runs into the wetland, which acts as a natural filter.

The stormwater pipe outlet will be on the site of the Eastlakes Golf Club directly adjacent to our 16th green. Instead of the stormwater exiting directly into the main lake, the ponds to the left of our 16th fairway and green will be reconstructed to create a number of smaller ponds for the stormwater to transit through prior to flowing over a small dam like wall that will be constructed near our 16th green.

We have been advised that there will be no impact to our operations during the construction project. The joining of the Eastlakes Golf Club land to our 16th green land by the new infrastructure is of concern; we are committed to preventing public and Member safety issues and preventing vandalism. Sydney Water has amended their plans in an effort to address our concerns. This includes fencing off all access to the new adjoining infrastructure to prevent unauthorised access.
