Hole 13 Information

This perched, narrow green is bound to be controversial and, no doubt, many will complain as they go back and forth across the green.

The fairway is deliberately wide on the left, giving the golfer acres of short grass to safely drive into. However it should be obvious that the ideal place to approach this short par four is from the right, over by the water hazard. From that position, players will be able to pitch straight up the green – and never have to deal with pitching across its narrow tableland.

If you have trouble here, study where you have driven the ball. The fairway may be 60 metres wide but the effective width is about a third of the total expanse of short grass. Miss those 20 metres and be prepared to pay the price – or hit a great pitch shot.

* Take an iron from the tee – either that or a club that will not reach the water on the right – and play left. The second shot is much easier if you are playing up the green as opposed to across it – as you will have to if you play right off the tee. If you are out of position and have to make a five, play the second shot short to leave the straight up chip.
