CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS 2019

A reminder to all Members that The Lakes Club Championship events are fast approaching. There are some important changes to both Men’s and Women’s Club Championships in 2019 and all Members are encouraged to read through this important message.

Women’s Mid-Week and Bronze Championships (Match Play year)
The Women’s Mid-Week and Mid-Week Bronze Championships will consist of a 36 hole scratch event to be played over two consecutive Tuesday’s to qualify for the Matchplay. The Top 8 Gross scores from both the Midweek and Midweek Bronze Championship qualifying round will then play matchplay. The 2018 Winner of the Women’s Midweek Championship was Julia Bowen. The Midweek Bronze defending Champion is Bev Ellis.

Round 2 – Tuesday 2 July, 2019
Round 1 Matchplay – Tuesday 9 July, 2019
Round 2 Matchplay – Tuesday 16 July, 2019
Final for Matchplay – Tuesday 23 July, 2019Women’s Club Championship Cup 2019 and Women’s Bronze Championship 2019

The Women’s Club Championships will be 2 rounds of qualifying to be played over two consecutive Sunday’s. The best 8 scratch scores will then play Matchplay to determine the 2019 Women’s Club Championship Winner. The 2018 winner of this event was Jessica Lasky. The Women’s Bronze Championship will be played on Sunday’s with the best 4 gross scores from players with a GA Handicap of 19.0 or greater to qualify for the Matchplay. Key dates are:

Round 1 Stroke play – Sunday 18 August, 2019

Round 2 Stroke play – Sunday 25 August, 2019

Round 1 Matchplay – Sunday 1 September, 2019

Round 2 Matchplay – Sunday 8 September, 2019

18 Hole Matchplay Final – Sunday 15 September, 2019 (Women’s Bronze Championship)

36 Hole Matchplay Final – Sunday 15 September, 2019 (Women’s Club Championship)

Junior Girls Championship

18 Hole scratch stroke event played over 18 holes on Sunday 18 August, 2019.

72 Hole Championship Medal

The 72 Hole Championship Medal is a four round stroke event with the winner having the lowest 72 hole GROSS score. Each round must be played from the BLACK Markers. Players are still eligible for the Monthly Medal which is played in conjunction with Round 3 of the 72 Hole Championship Medal. Additionally, players are still eligible for Club Championship Qualifying rounds and the A-Reserve Championship in Rounds 3 and 4. The 2018 Winner of the 72 Hole Championship Medal was Sam Beck. Key dates are:

Round 1 – Saturday, 3 August, 2019

Round 2 –  Saturday, 10 August, 2019

Round 3 – Saturday, 17 August, 2019

Round 4 – Saturday, 24 August, 2019

36 Hole Junior Championship

The 36 Hole Junior Championship is a two round stroke event with the winner having with the lowest 36 hole GROSS score. Each round must be played from the BLACK Markers. This event was played in 2018 with Alex Zhu coming out as the 2018 Junior Champion. Key dates are:

Round 1 – Saturday, 3 August, 2019

Round 2 – Saturday, 10 August, 2019

Club Championship, B Grade Championship and C Grade Championship

The Club Championship format will be 36 holes of Qualifying stroke rounds over two Saturdays, with the sixteen lowest gross scores in each Grade proceeding to the Match play component of the event. The key change in 2019 for the Men’s Club Championship (typically GA Handicaps of 9.0 or less) will be any Member wanting to qualify for the Club Championship must place their name on the registration sheet by Tuesday 6 August.  This Club Championship registration sheet will be opened on 23 July on the Club’s website and will provide players the option to choose between the AM or the PM field. A player who does not register their name by 6 August will be precluded from playing in the Club Championship. Key dates are:

Round 1 Qualifying – Saturday 17 August, 2019 (in conjunction with the 3rd round of the 72 Hole Championship Medal)

Round 2 Qualifying – Saturday 24 August, 2019 (in conjunction with the 4th round of the 72 Hole Championship Medal)

Key dates for Match Play Rounds are as follows:

Round 1 – Saturday 31 August, 2019 (on this date, unless both players agree to another date prior)

Round 2 – Saturday 7 September, 2019 (on this date, unless both players agree to another date prior)

Round 3 – Sunday 8 September, 2019 (must be played on this date)

Finals – Sunday 15 September, 2019 (must be played on this date)

If you are not available to play on the four above dates, do not register to play in the Club Championship. Members who fail to play in the registered time are likely to be prevented from playing in the Club Championship the following year and prevented from playing any other matchplay event for three months.

Each qualifying round for the Club Championships will be played off the BLACK Tee’s. The 2018 Winner was Roy Vandersluis.

Each qualifying round for the B Grade Championships will be played off the BLUE Tee’s. The handicap range is 9.1 – 15.4. The 2018 B Grade Champion was Tony Hindle.

Each qualifying round for the C Grade Championships will be played off the WHITE Tee’s. The handicap range is 15.5 +. The 2018 C Grade Champion was Gary Michael.

A-Reserve Championship

The qualifying for the A-Reserve Championship is the best gross score over 36 holes played in conjunction with rounds 3 & 4 of the 72 Hole Championship Medal (Qualifying rounds for the Club Championship Matchplay). The handicap range is 5.5 – 9.0. The 2018 A-Reserve Champion was Kevin Trenorden.

The top 8 qualifiers from the 36 holes of stroke play will compete in match play to decide the winner. All Members will be required to play in the Club Championship matchplay if they qualify, which will preclude them from the A Reserve. Key dates are:

Round 1 Stroke Play – Saturday 17 August, 2019

Round 2 Stroke Play – Saturday 24 August, 2019

Round 1 Matchplay – Saturday 31 August, 2019 (on this date, unless both players agree to another date prior)

Round 2 Matchplay – Saturday 7 September, 2019 (on this date, unless both players agree to another date prior)

Final for Matchplay – Sunday 15 September, 2019 (on this date)

Please note that at the conclusion of all Championship Final Matches on Sunday 15th September, the Major Presentation Night will be held from 5.30pm in the Banksia Room.
